Hoi An is another idyllic pocket of Vietnam that's best experienced from the seat of a bike. Take a guided bicycle tour through the rolling countryside
Halong Bay feels like paradise, with its blue-green waters and spectacular caves. Spend time exploring it's beautiful bay and wake up to the morning light from your overnight boat.
This trip involves a lot of public transport and some long days of driving, so some patience will go a long way towards your enjoyment here. Sit back, relax, watch the scenery go by, and embrace travelling like a local.
Accommodation is more basic – a combination of simple hotels, guesthouses and homestays and overnight trains. Accommodation and amenities on the overnight trains, and also at the homestays are shared and basic, however the opportunity meet with the locals makes it all worthwhile.
This being a Basix trip, there are less included activities and meals, and more free time for optional activities. While this gives you freedom and flexibility, it does require a level of independence.
Your visit to Hoi An includes a bicycle tour of the surrounding countryside. Although the ride isn’t strenuous, you will need a basic level of fitness to take part.
1. Please provide your full name as per passport and passport number 45 days prior to departure in order to secure Vietnam train tickets.
2. A Single Supplement to have your own room is available on this trip and excludes nights 7 & 13 (homestay), 14, 16 & 22 (overnight train) and 24 (overnight boat) where you will be in shared accommodation.
3. ITINERARY CHANGES IN 2018: For departures from the 22nd December 2017 this itinerary will spend 2 nights in Hoi An, 2 nights in Hue and 1 night at a homestay in Da Bac. The homestay program will offer travellers the chance to experience more rural Vietnam as well as interact with locals. As a result of this change and set train schedule times there will be 2 nights in Hoi and 1 night in Hue.
The itinerary will be as follows:
Day 1 -16: Remain the same
Day 17-18: Hoi An
Days 19: Hue
Day 20: Overnight train to Hanoi
Day 21: Hanoi
Day 22: Da Bac homestay
Day 23: Hanoi
Day 24-26: Halong Bay / Hanoi. Remain the same.

I booked the Indochina Experience 4 days before it began. Prepare for your senses to be overwhelmed. Traffic, hahaha, madness.
