Itinerary

Welcome to this Sri Lankan family adventure! Take your time settling into the hotel, perhaps taking a dip in the pool before meeting everyone.
Travel straight to the heart of the island and shake off any cobwebs with a climb to the top of Sigiriya’s spectacular Lion Rock. Reach the ruins of a fortified palace at the summit and take in the incredible panoramic views. Then take bike ride through the countryside and witness the rituals of daily life unfolding around you.
Between November and April, watch the mist rise from the vast Lake Parakrama, chat to local fishermen and their families and take to the waters in a catamaran. Between May and October, enjoy free time to explore the area. Then explore Polonnaruwa’s well-preserved ancient ruins.
Explore Sri Lanka’s largest cave temple complex and be amazed at the ornate frescoes that decorate the cave monastery at Dambulla. Pass coffee plantations on the journey south to scenic Kandy and visit the Temple of the Tooth, where a tooth of Lord Buddha is enshrined. Stroll through the city’s wonderful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, a haven of tranquillity, and be bowled over by its natural charms.
Head through hill country to adventure-filled Kitulgala. Explore the spectacular jungle terrain and enjoy a canoe ride down the Kelani River, which famously featured in the film “Bridge on the River Kwai”.
Enjoy a scenic journey past lush green hills and gushing waterfalls to Nuwara Eliya. Visit a tea factory in the tea capital of Sri Lanka, which was once known as 'Little England' by British colonialists.
Another hill town once popular with British plantation managers, Bandarawela sits amidst picturesque vegetable gardens in the cool, green highlands.
Discover how the majestic elephant has been part of Sri Lankan culture for many centuries while visiting the Elephant Transit Home. Arrive at this centre during feeding time and see how this important organisation helps rehabilitate and release elephants back into the wild. Set off on a jeep safari in search of the many herds of wild elephant that call Uda Walawe home. Finally, continue to the coast and fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves.
Journey north back up the coast and walk along the walls and narrow streets of Galle Dutch Fort. Travel on to the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, which was set up to help protect Sri Lanka’s turtles against the threat of extinction. On arrival in Negombo, take it easy wiling away the hours in one of Sri Lanka’s premier beach towns, soaking up the laidback atmosphere and taking the occasional dip in the deliciously warm waters of the Indian Ocean. After such an action and animal-packed holiday, why not spend the final night swapping memories with the family’s new-found friends.
The trip ends today. Those on group flights will be transferred to the airport for the flight back home
