Days 1-2 Lima

Make your acquaintance with Peru’s culinary-minded capital on a guided afternoon walking tour through the city’s colonial centre. Snack on tasty street food like antichucho (meat skewers) and picarones (doughnuts) while seeing the sights. Visit a pisco bodega the next day and see how this famous local drink is made before checking out an important archaeological site. Tonight, bohemian Barranco is on the cards with the choice to go on a bar hop to taste pisco and the city’s revered cocktails.

Days 3-4 Cuzco

See a different side of Lima at the fish market in Chorillo, meeting local fishmongers and then attending a cooking class in a market restaurant to learn the art of preparing ceviche. Then swap fish for fruit at the Surquillo market to discover the exotic fruits on offer in Peru. Fly to Cuzco in the afternoon, where a guided walk around San Pedro market and a workshop at the chocolate museum is a sweet way to see the day out. In the evening, the options in Cuzco are endless – perhaps check out the city’s coolest bars or endless restaurant options.

Travel to the Sacred Valley and stop at the Pisac market to check out the delightful handicrafts that flood the stalls here. Sample freshly made empanadas hot from an authentic horno (clay oven) before stopping in Chichubamba to learn about the local community here – this is also your opportunity to try traditional cuy (roasted guinea pig). Enjoy a final feast, using the ancian Incan cooking technique of pachamanca - the slow-roasting of meat and vegetables in an oven created beneath the earth.
