Days 1-2 Budapest - overnight train

With an ease that appears effortless, Budapest blends old-world charm with new-age style. There’s no shortage of sights and monuments to see here, so if time allows perhaps consider arriving a few days early to make the most of what’s on offer.

Days 3-4 Belgrade

Following an overnight train ride, arrive in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. Become acquainted with the city on a guided orientation walk led by your local leader, then check out the Bohemian Quarter, artist village of Zemun and the markets surrounding St Sava Church under your own steam.

Days 5-6 Sarajevo

Cross into Bosnia and Herzegovina and travel through spectacular countryside to Sarajevo. Having been significantly reduced during the Bosnian War, the city has undergone extensive reconstruction and is now renowned as one of Europe’s most delightful cities. Spend two days discovering its historic attractions and culinary secrets.

Day 7 Mostar

Travel by train to Mostar, a town famous as the site of the Old Bridge. Visit this historic landmark, considered by many as one of the most exemplary examples of Islamic architecture in the Balkans.

Day 8 Kotor

Enjoy a guided orientation walk around Kotor’s city walls, taking in the superb panoramic views out across the Adriatic Sea.

Days 9-10 Dubrovnik

Encounter the beauty of Dubrovnik, renowned jewel of the Dalmatian Coast. Explore the city with a walk through its Old Town’s atmospheric streets and seaside promenades, savoring exquisite views across the Adriatic. For a dose of history, pop into Rector’s Palace, the Franciscan Monastery or the War Photography Museum. Alternatively, opt for a boat trip to Lokrum Island or just see how many of the local delicacies you can sample.
