The outback town of Alice Springs is a travel hub for visitors setting off to the explore the sensational range of natural wonders the Red Centre has to offer. An iconic image of outback Australia and a sacred site for the local Aboriginal people, Uluru's remarkable colour changes are a wonder to behold.
Rise early to experience a jaw-dropping sunrise over Uluru before exploring this giant sandstone formation up-close. Learn the story of the Mala people on a guided walk with a local Aboriginal guide, and admire the Indigenous art on display at a local cultural centre. Then head into Watarrka National Park and spend the evening camping.
Take a stroll along the walking tracks of Kings Canyon, where chasms, gorges and surprisingly lush gardens dot the landscape. Before the heat of the day gets too intense, head along the Mereenie Loop Track to our camping spot in the Western MacDonnell National Park. Enjoy a refreshing dip in a waterhole or pull up a stool at a bar overlooking the Finke River.
With highlights including Ormiston Gorge and Palm Valley, the beautiful natural surrounds of the Western MacDonnell Ranges are home to walking trails, waterholes and rock wallabies. Located 1500km from the nearest major city, Alice Springs may be isolated but it still boasts decent restaurants, fascinating Aboriginal art galleries and a lively nightlife.
