Leaving Darwin, head to Litchfield National Park, home to dozens of freshwater waterfalls and swimming holes. After lunch and a refreshing dip, it's on to Wulna Country where the Limilngan–Wulna people provide tips on finding bush tucker and playing the didgeridoo. Stop in and visit the Wangi and Florence Falls, as well as the tranquil beauty of the Buley Rockholes. Enjoy a pub dinner before before turning in for the night at our campsite in the gorgeous Mary River Wetlands – a flat network of waterways brimming with crocs and native bird species.
Venture off-road in 4x4s to the World Heritage-listed site of Kakadu National Park. Spend time taking in the plunging 200 m waterfall of Jim Jim Falls and the smaller cascades of nearby Twin Falls. Then hop aboard a boat ride through the waterways and follow national park guides on a boardwalk excursion. Tonight's stay is in a permanent camp in Kakadu National Park.
Behold ancient Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr and then walk to the top of a lookout for some great views over the wide expanse of the Nardab Floodplain. Pay a visit to Eden Falls as you travel from Pine Creek on to Katherine. Next up is Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where a hike is rewarded with a reviving swim in the cooling plunge pools.
Depending on the season, opt to set out on a cruise or canoe between the red rock walls of Katherine Gorge. At over 23 million years old, this natural marvel is one of the Top End’s true wonders. Enjoy an Aboriginal Australian cultural experience today and then head back to Darwin, where this Territory explorer trip comes to an end.
