Crossing the Circle Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Ushuaia

Begin your journey in Ushuaia, a bustling port town at the tip of South America. Prepare for the adventure ahead, explore the mountains or enjoy some local handcrafted chocolate.

Day 2 Embarkation

The Beagle Channel is the perfect chance to snap photos of beautiful sea birds. Once you head out to the Southern Ocean, the next land in sight will be the Antarctic Peninsula.

Days 3-4 Drake Passage

The waters of the Drake Passage are notoriously unpredictable, so hope for clear skies and a calm ocean. Enjoy the time getting to know your fellow shipmates and attending onboard lectures about the region.

Days 5-6 Antarctic Peninsula & South Shetland Islands

Get your camera ready for the first sighting of Antarctica. Watch as icebergs float past and whales breach the surface of the ocean. Weather will dictate which of the landing spots are chosen, but each promises incredible natural beauty and lots of wildlife.

Days 7-8 The Antarctic Circle

Most Antarctic expeditions do not reach this far south, so at 66° 33’ S you and your shipmates will celebrate with a well-earned glass of champagne! Take pride in knowing you’ve made it to a part of the world visited by very few people.

Days 9-10 Northbound Along the Peninsula

By now your conversations will be sprinkled with talk of ‘bergy bits’, ‘pancake ice’ and comparisons of Adélie, chinstrap and gentoo penguins. As you explore by Zodiac, the Expedition Team are on hand to talk you through any aspect of this amazing and compelling landscape.

Days 11-12 Drake Passage

Re-crossing the Drake gives the Expedition Team a chance to round out their lecture series, and for everyone to share photos and memories from the journey.

Day 13 Disembarkation in Ushuaia

Today you’ll say goodbye to your Expedition Team and fellow travellers. Disembark in the morning, perhaps staying in Ushuaia longer to settle the inevitable sea legs.
