Family - Complete Turkey Summary
Add to ShortlistDay 1 Istanbul
Adorned with treasure from all periods of human history, Istanbul is not only one of the world's most fascinating places, it's also one of its most mesmerising.
Days 2-4 Goreme
Sculptured by millenniums of erosion and centuries of human craftsmanship, Goreme is a truly magical place with fairy chimneys, rock-hewn churches and underground cities.
Days 5-6 Selcuk
Selcuk's claim to fame is its proximity to the amazing ruins of Ephesus, although it has its own charm with its orchards, forests and strong cultural roots.
Day 7 Pamukkale
Your journey continues as you take in more of Turkey's incredible sights. Firstly, you drive to Afrodisias, where the Roman ruins include the huge Temple of Aphrodite before heading inland to Pamukkale, the name translates as 'cotton castle'. Here you will discover many terraces of white calcified rock pools which are filled with turquiose coloured hot water from underground springs - it does indeed resemble a unique kind of fairytale wonderland.
Days 8-10 Fethiye
You head down to the coast today for a change of scenery. The drive from Pamukkale to Fethiye takes between three and four hours as you head for the sea. Once here there are a couple of options available to you, depending on the weather conditions. You can take a tour to Saklikent Gorge, the second largest Gorge in Europe, at 20 kilometres long. Here walls of rock tower above you as you walk through the gorge. From here you head over to the ruins of Tlos, one of the principal cities of Lycia. Depending on the weather, you may instead take a boat trip out to Butterfly Valley. This beach is unspoilt and has a relaxed atmosphere which is a great place for you to relax and end your trip.
