Travel from Istanbul to Gallipoli for the 2014 Anzac Day Dawn Service. Sleep out under the stars as the ANZACs did 99 years before.
Day 1 Istanbul/Gallipoli
Meet in Istanbul and travel to the Gallipoli Peninsula. The battle fought here during World War I helped forge the collective national identity of Australians and New Zealanders, and was also perceived by the Turks as a defining moment in their own fight for independence. See Anzac Cove, Lone Pine and the Nek and marvel at the beauty and serenity of a land that played host to one of the most horrific military campaigns of modern times. Hear stories of the tragic events that unfolded on 25 April, 1915 - a stark contrast to the green, windswept plains seen today. Walk through the trenches and be transported back to a defining chapter in Australia's Anzac history.
Day 2 Gallipoli/Istanbul
Wake in darkness to spend the first hours of Anzac Day 2013 at the moving Gallipoli dawn service. After the sombre final notes of 'The Last Post' ring out, there's time to attend more ceremonies for individual countries. Wander the cemeteries and reflect on the horrors of war and the sacrifices of these young men. Board a bus and travel to Istanbul late in the day.
