Days 1-3 Cinque Terre
Begin with a hike along the stunning coastal path that connects the quaint, pastel-coloured villages of the Cinque Terre. The vistas along the way are breathtaking, with olive grove-covered mountains plunging into the azure sea. The following day, get off the beaten track with a challenging hike to Portovenere for more beautiful views from the church of San Pietro. After enjoying the town's sights, return by bus to Riomaggiore for the evening.
Days 4-5 The Garfagnana
Leaving the Cinque Terre, we travel to the Apennines where our guided mountain bike adventure begins. Although we ride on sealed roads for most of the way, the terrain in the beautiful Garfagnana region is hilly and challenging. After working up an appetite, spend the evening dining on traditional local fare in a 17th century farm building, which has been converted to rustic apartments and offers views of the mountains. On day 5, take to the hills again and hike on of the many trails in the area.
Days 6-8 Lucca
Stretch those legs as we follow the old 'mulattiera', or mule track, to the medieval hilltop town of Barga. In Lucca, a leisurely bike ride on the city walls offers a unique introduction to this picturesque town. Later we cycle out into the Tuscan countryside and follow the Serchio River as it winds through the rolling landscape, rewarding our efforts with a riverside picnic. There's free time to further explore the Tuscan hills or wander through the quaint streets of medieval Lucca. A day trip further afield to Pisa is also possible.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
