Day 1 Rome
A welcome dinner gives us a taste of the cuisine that awaits us. There is so much to see and do in Rome, it's a good idea to arrive early and spend time exploring the sights of this wonderful city. While wandering through the streets, search for the perfect gelato or try a gourmet pizza - buon appetito!
Days 2-3 Perugia
Travel by train to medieval Perugia. This beautifully preserved town is our base for exploring the delicacies of Umbria. Sit back with a cappuccino and soak up the laid-back atmosphere at one of the town's many cafes. A day trip to the nearby town of Spello lets us truly indulge in the local fare. Sample some of the fine local wine and food specialities at a quaint enoteca nestled amongst the narrow streets.
Days 4-5 Modena
Visit Bologna, birthplace of the world-famous bolognaise sauce, then head to the Roman garrison town of Modena, which is home to Pavarotti, Ferrari and Maserati. Our focus, however, is on balsamic vinegar. Visit an acetaia, where families produce the finest aged balsamic vinegar available. The vinegar is made in the eaves of family homes in conditions which are impossible to reproduce in a factory. Stock up on some bottles because once you have tasted it, there's no going back.
Days 6-7 Piedmont
From Umbrian food we move to one of Piedmont's great specialities, wine. Spend some time getting to know the wines of the region at a wine-tasting in Castagnole. Piedmont is world-renowned for its sweet, sparkling whites but the region is also well known for its Barbera and Barolo reds. Truffles are another specialty, so make sure you take the opportunity to savour one of the world's greatest delicacies.
Days 8-10 Florence
Our final taste of Italy is Tuscan. There's an opportunity to explore the romance of Florence and then enjoy a variety of excellent restaurants, pavement cafes, bars and other nightlife.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
