Day 1 Kathmandu
Experience the eclectic sights of Kathmandu. The monkey temple of Swayambhunath is well worth a visit, as are the street markets and Old Durbar Square.
Day 2 Bandipur
Friendly locals are ready to chat and guide you on walks in the countryside surrounding Bandipur, where you'll get a first glimpse of the stunning Annapurna ranges.
Days 3-19 Annapurna Circuit
By day, trek through rugged mountain scenery and at night relax in cosy teahouses where simple but filling meals sustain your efforts. Complete a loop around the Annapurna ranges, cross icy rivers, traverse broad plains and climb mountain passes. Say hello to yak and goat herders on grassy fields and visit remote mountain monasteries to soak up Nepali culture and traditions. Stop often to look at the vistas - you'll hardly believe such beauty can be real - and acclimatise to the dramatic altitudes. Cross Thorung La Pass, the highest on this trip at 5,416 m, and take a moment to revel in the adrenaline rush that comes with such an enjoyable exertion.
Day 20 Pokhara
Exhilarated and ready to celebrate, it's time to hop on a bus and travel to the lovely town of Pokhara. This is the perfect base to rest our weary limbs, contemplate a tremendous achievement and enjoy the mountain views from one of the many lakeside cafes.
Days 21-22 Kathmandu
Returning to Kathmandu, there is time to continue sightseeing or do some last minute shopping. The souvenir options are plentiful, with many markets selling Nepali wares of clothes, embroidery, carpets and ceramics.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
For other safety updates, please see our general safety updates page.

I can not give enough praise to Hari and the team at Himalyan Encounters! It was withought doubt my most enjoyable trekking experience.

I was very impressed with the organisation of the trip and the high quality of the leaders and guides. Safety was always a priority and i have no hesitation in travelling with intrepid again.

The trip was very good! I would recommend it to certain friends but the trip is not suited to all people. It is suited to those who want to concede control of their plans or holiday. I think it would be possible for their to be more detailed information around exactly what is going to take place each day. Each day there is limited information about the detail and it would better to understand exactly what is going to take place.
The tipping of staff for the main trip proved to be a real issue. We felt that they way it was approached was that tipping had gone from what is normally a gratuity to a requirement. But we were not thanked for our tip. We gave a tip to all staff and were provided envelopes to do so. We were unsure as to whether staff were being paid by intrepid appropriately and therefore we were obliged to make good there pay etc etc. This WAS THE BIGGEST ISSUE OF THE TRIP. It even led to arguments within the group as to how much should be paid. On the second last evening in the dining tent the leader gave us advice that tomorrow envelopes would be available for tipping. the actions and words of the leader didn't seem to link. He said you don't have to tip but should do so if the service was not bad. yet then left us to discuss the matter. It didn't feel like a personal or private opportunity to give graciously. it instead was led to be a huge saga which mildly disturbed the morale within the group. We felt that the service of the staff was focused not around -custom of helfulness or kindness but how much could be gained through tips. Obviously previous groups have be irresponsible in this area due to the lack of understanding of what to do. I would suggest that tipping of porters and cooking staff etc should be facilitated because by its very nature it is too difficult to simply approach each individual. However it should be a very private and personal manner. And not a reward ceremony at the end of the trip
