Day 1 Arrive in Kunming
We arrive in the capital of Yunnan, also known as the City of External Spring', with a chance to explore the Muslim Quarter for delicious food, the famous Bird Market or the Tanhua Temple and other historical attractions.
Day 2 Lijiang
An early morning flight takes us to Lijiang, home to the fascinating matriarchal Naxis, descendants from Tibetan nomads. The old town is filled with canals, ancient bridges and wooden houses.
Day 3 Cycling around Lijiang
A gentle introduction to warm up those leg muscles up as we cycle around the beautiful Lashi Lake. Take a step back in time as we ride under the shadow of the Yulong Mountains, the southernmost section of Himalayas.
Day 4 Bai Shui He
A varied and spectacular day of riding as we take back roads out of Lijiang through the ancient villages of Su He and Baisha, past an intricate terraced landscape and the Yu Feng temple.
Day 5 Tiger Leaping Gorge
Few sights can match the magnificent scenery and sense of adventure when cycling and hiking through the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge of the Yangtze River, a spectacular mountain area.
Day 6 Free day
To celebrate our 'half way' acheivement we've scheduled a free day in the Gorge to rest your legs and take in the breathtaking scenery of the gorge.
Day 7 Shigu
After riding out of the gorge, we wind back along the Yangtze River through road side villages and terraced paddy fields. We stop by the 'first bend' of the Yangtze since leaving Tibet, also a famous crossing site for both Mao and Kublai Khan.
Day 8 Jian Chuan
The heart of rural Yunnan greets us with shouts of 'Ni Hao' from colorurfully dressed field workers as another memorable cycle ride takes through bamboo groves and mud brick villages.
Day 9 Er Yuan
We work our way up and over a steep winding mountain road whose terraced paddy fields resemble giant staircases. A rest and a panoramic view is our reward before we start the exhilarating downhill on the other side.
Day 10 Dali
This morning is the last leg of our challenge as we ride to the historical town of Dali.
Day 12 Back to Kunming
Transfer from Dali back to Kunming by bus. Departure early evening to Bangkok.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
For other safety updates, please see our general safety updates page.
