For the best East Africa has to offer, combine your Tanzania Adventure with our Kenya Explorer itinerary. (YSW)
Day 1 Nairobi/ Arusha
Transfer from the frenetic streets of Nairobi to scenic Arusha, nestled at the foot of a majestic volcano. This is the entry point to Tanzania, home to an incredible variety of wildlife and spectacular natural sights.
Day 2 Lake Manyara
Cross the Great Rift Valley floor to Mto Wa Mbu to check out its colourful markets. Then continue on to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its unique tree-climbing lions and thriving hippo population.
Days 3-4 Serengeti National Park
Enter the Serengeti, home to large herds of zebras and wildebeest and the sleek predators which prey on them. Spot as many animals as possible on an excellent game drive. Then let the calls of nocturnal birds lull you to sleep. At dawn, an optional balloon ride over the park offers a chance to watch the animals of the African savannah awaken.
Day 5 Ngorongoro Crater
Visit the Olduvai Gorge, home to earliest man, before driving to the crater rim to set up camp. The Ngorongoro Crater is home to a huge animal population so keep an eye out for the Big Five and more.
Day 6 Karatu
A half-day game drive along the crater floor puts you right in the middle of the action - with a bit of luck, there might even be a lion closing in for the kill.
Day 7 Tarangire National Park
Wonderfully unspoilt, the Tarangire National Park is home to herds of enormous elephants. At sunset, the unique baobab trees are silhouetted against purple skies.
Day 8 Nairobi
The adventure ends in Nairobi, where the colourful cultures of Kenya's many tribes and modern life come together.

These documents have been prepared by Intrepid staff to give you a brief introduction to the places you are visiting. We think it's important to understand the culture you are visiting, and the expectations of their society.
Intrepid is committed to a style of travel that is environmentally, culturally and socially responsible - we call this 'Responsible Travel'. Download this document and visit the About Intrepid section of this site for more information about how to be a Responsible Traveller.
Please also read our safety guidelines for further information on the operational safety standards you can expect on every Intrepid trip.
On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
For other safety updates, please see our general safety updates page.
