Once you've enjoyed the magical Masia Mara you might like to take in the other side of the park in Tanzania - the world famous Serengeti National Park - by turning your Kenya Lodge Safari into a Kenya and Tanzania Lodge Safari. More great animals up close (YKL)
Day 1 Nairobi
At an altitude of 1,700 m Nairobi is the continent's highest capital city.
Days 2-3 Samburu National Park
Travel over the equator and across the shoulder of Mt Kenya to reach the arid north of the country. In this region, the local Samburu are easily identified by their resplendent clothes and ornate jewellery. Spend two nights in a lodge on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River which offers a view of crocodiles from the veranda. On game drives through the Samburu, look out for giraffes, zebras, gerenuks and oryx.
Day 4 Aberdare National Park
Stay at the famous Treetops Hotel in the heart of Aberdare National Park. Featuring panoramic views of the forest and waterholes below, there are opportunities for superb game viewing both night and day. Buffaloes, rhinos and giant forest hogs are common visitors here.
Day 5 Lake Nakuru
Head west to Lake Nakuru National Park in the heart of the Rift Valley. The lake is justly famous for its visiting flocks of flamingos, pelicans and cormorants but land animals are well represented also. Rare Rothschild's giraffes, black and white rhinos all flourish within the park boundaries.
Days 6-7 Masai Mara
One of Africa's most famous reserves, the Masai Mara is a landscape of undulating plains and riverine woodland. The vegetation sustains buffaloes, gazelles and myriad other herbivores. In turn, these well-fed creatures are food for black-maned lions, leopards, cheetahs and other stealthy predators. Drive out at dusk or dawn to catch these great cats in action.
Day 8 Nairobi
Make a return to the country's capital just in time for lunch.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
For other safety updates, please see our general safety updates page.
Every day, hundreds of happy people return from Intrepid trips, and their comments are here for you to read. We do not screen the feedback on this site, all comments are posted here as they were written (unless they used inappropriate language).
Great leaders
Dana Shokery
Great guide in Kenya and wonderful experience seeing the animals. However, we were greatly disappointed in the poor quality of most of the accommodation in both Kenya and Tanzania. We expected much better accommodation considering the cost of the trip. The quality of the vehicle used in Kenya was also poor with no airconditining which was essential travelling on the very bad road (under repair) to the Masai Mara park as we had to keep the windows closed to stop breathing in the dust. The choice was between suffocating or breathing in dust. More information should be given about the poor quality of the roads particularly in Kenya and the time taken to travel between parks.
Ruvani Wickremesinghe
A very worthwhile trip of lifetime to a beautiful country
Basil Hodson
Interesting but very bumpy and dusty safari. Can improve if better transport is provided ie Land Cruiser. Also incorporate cultural event (eg visit Masai village)to tone down the all game drives.
