Day 1 Nairobi/ Marangu
Spot Mt Kilimanjaro's snowy peak en route to the exotic gardens of the Marangu Hotel.
Day 2 Amani Children's Home
Spend an unforgettable day hanging out with the happy kids at Amani - their big smiles and best wishes will put you in good spirits for the climb ahead.
Day 3 First Cave
The trek begins with an easy stroll through steamy rainforest teeming with brightly coloured birds and cheeky monkeys. At 3,000 m, set up camp on the sparse open moorland and enjoy dinner in the shadow of the summit.
Day 4 Kikelewa Cave
Get those muscles fired up, tackling steeper terrain and rolling alpine meadows. The twin peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi tower above, and terrific views of the Amboseli plains unfold behind us.
Day 5 Mawenzi Tarn
Ascend slowly up to Mawenzi Tarn, the mountain's only permanent lake. Spend time relaxing or exploring the strange surrounding landscapes to acclimatise to the altitude.
Day 6 Kibo Camp
Traverse the 'saddle', a stark moonscape that sits between Kibo and Mawenzi. Retire early in preparation for the challenging last leg of the climb.
Day 7 Summit
Wake up with some strong tea and begin the trek beneath starry skies, crossing a large scree slope by lantern-light. Get to Gillman's Peak in time for sunrise, and perhaps continue on to the Roof of Africa, Uhuru Peak, for unsurpassable views. Descend to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest.
Days 8-9 Marangu/ Nairobi
Hike out of the park and head back to the hotel for a hot shower and a hearty meal, to herald the end of a remarkable adventure.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
