Days 1-2 Stone Town
The cultural and historical heart of the archipelago, Stone Town is a labyrinth of streets with intricate doors adorning the beautiful old buildings. Enjoy a variety of exotic sights and smells today on a spice tour into the island's interior. Take in the heady scent of drying cloves, taste the bark of a cinnamon tree and be thrilled by the sight of locals reddening their mouths with the lipstick plant. Get acquainted with fresh tropical fruits too - coconuts, jackfruit, bananas and pineapples abound on this isle of plenty. Try the pungent fruit of the durian tree if you dare. This afternoon there's time to uncover more of Zanzibar Town's secrets - from vibrant markets to an atmospheric Arab fort.
Days 3-4 Beach Resort
Travel north today to soak up the sun on a beach of pure white sand or splash in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Stay two nights in a comfortable resort built from locally-sourced coral, limestone and mangrove timbers, sleeping in traditional-style rooms. The resort is perfectly located on the palm-fringed coastline where stretches of white sand reach into warm, welcoming waters. The spectacular offshore reef, home to a startling array of brightly coloured fish, makes for excellent snorkelling and diving. If you're feeling energetic, there are also exciting activities such as water skiing and deep sea fishing on offer. Take in the view from your balcony, work up a sweat in the gym or just chill out - on the beach, by the pool or in a bar.
Day 5 Stone Town
There's time for a final refreshing early morning swim before transferring to Zanzibar Airport after breakfast.

Please also read our safety guidelines for further information on the operational safety standards you can expect on every Intrepid trip.
On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
