Days 1-2 Johannesburg/ Kruger National Park
Set off from Johannesburg and travel through the magnificent mountain scenery of the Mpumalanga Region. Continue on to the famed Kruger National Park, a massive 24,000 sq km in size, to spend time spotting the Big Five: lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards and rhinos. Some 500 species of bird also inhabit the park and the flat bush and savannah is home to heaps of other interesting African animals such as impalas, hyenas and warthogs so keep your eyes wide open. There's also a chance to take a safari after dark to catch sight of nocturnal predators staking out their suppers.
Days 3-4 Polokwane/ Nata
Spend time travelling from one wildlife haven to another as you head north via Nata and Francistown to the great grasslands of Botswana.
Day 5 Chobe National Park
Bid farewell to South Africa as you travel to Chobe National Park where an estimated 120,000 elephants reside. The lush plains and forests of the reserve support a remarkable density of game. Hippos and crocodiles keep cool in muddy swamps and a leisurely cruise along the river is a good way to get near them. Look out for powerful fish eagles, the vibrant plumage of kingfishers as well as baby elephants having a bath.
Day 6 Victoria Falls/ Livingstone
Go wild in Livingstone, Zambia's adventure sports capital and the gateway to the raging waters of Victoria Falls. Named Mosi oa Tunya by locals, meaning 'the smoke that thunders', this incredible waterfall is a must-see. At the height of rainy season the spray from the falls rises an impressive 120 m into the air. For a different perspective, there is an option to take in an exhilarating aerial view from a helicopter, charter plane or micro-light.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
For other safety updates, please see our general safety updates page.

Had a fantastic trip, more than I could have hoped for.

Although I booked through Intrepid, I was suprised to find the trip was actually run by "Acacia Africa." This meant the itinerary and included/optional activities was slightly different to what I was expecting.

Good budget camping trip - gave me a taste of overlanding

Although our trip was run in Africa by Acacia (who were very good!), Intrepid made planning very easy. The staff were friendly, gave good information, answered any of my obvious first-time-traveller questions and actually called back when they said they would! Will use Intrepid again.
