Days 1-2 Livingstone/ Victoria Falls
The thunder of nearby Victoria Falls forms the soundtrack for the first part of this exciting adventure. From Livingstone there is ample time to visit the mighty falls, where getting soaked from the spray is all part of the experience. On the banks of the Zambezi, the options are many, including taking a cruise along the upper reaches of the river to catch sight of hippos and buffaloes.
Days 3-4 Lusaka/ Chipata
Travel through rural villages, cross the mighty Luangwa River and arrive in the capital, Lusaka.
Days 5-7 Lake Malawi
We move onwards to Lake Malawi. Enjoy a few days on the peaceful beaches meeting locals, exploring the lakeside forests or even learning how to dive.
Days 8-9 Chitimba/ Iringa
Pass through Mikumi National Park where giraffes are often seen foraging for food among the branches of prickly acacia trees.
Day 10 Dar es Salaam
The road travels past the snow-dusted summit of Mt Kilimanjaro. Dar es Salaam is the launch pad for the Spice Island of Zanzibar.
Days 11-13 Zanzibar
Taking a ferry to the evocative Spice Island of Zanzibar. Wander the warren of winding streets in Stone Town, packed with grand Arab-style mansions and oriental markets, or tour the inland spice plantations that made this island so famous. Swim in the sultry waters of the Indian Ocean to discover the treasure trove beneath the surface.
Day 14 Dar es Salaam
Spend a night in our beach side camp on the outskirts of Tanzania's largest city.
Day 15 Pangani
Step back in time with a visit to the historic port town of Pangani
Days 16-17 Arusha/ Karatu
Try to spot Kilimanjaro, Africa's Queen of Mountains, before browsing the bustling markets of a local village and maybe bargaining for some unusual carvings.
Days 18-19 Serengeti National Park/ Ngorongoro Crater
Undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, the Serengeti National Park is a haven for African animals.
Day 20 Ngorongoro Crater/ Arusha
The animal-packed Ngorongoro Crater is an excellent place to spot the Big Five.
Days 21 Nairobi
Return to Arusha and travel across the Masai Steppe to Nairobi.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
For other safety updates, please see our general safety updates page.

A good way to see a lot in a fairly short period of time. Saw some amazing things.....but be prepared for lots of long days driving as well, which can get frustrating.

Although our trip was run in Africa by Acacia (who were very good!), Intrepid made planning very easy. The staff were friendly, gave good information, answered any of my obvious first-time-traveller questions and actually called back when they said they would! Will use Intrepid again.

This trip Cape Town to Kenya was fantastic in every way. We saw the big 5 and plenty more. The countryside and the people were great. The truck Acacia, was much better than other operators. Our leader and driver outstanding.
Nola O'connell
An excellent trip. Acacia's trucks are better than any others we saw on the way.
