Day 1 Lima
Take a walk through Lima's well-preserved historic centre to get a feel for its interesting past. The area around the main plaza has many sites of interest.
Days 2-4 Puno/ Lake Titicaca
Water stretches as far as the eye can see at Lake Titicaca, home to many communities with unique cultures. Be welcomed by locals on an island homestay experience, travel by boat on the calm waters and maybe pick up some quality knitted goods handmade by the local men on Taquile Island.
Day 5 Cuzco
Take time to acclimatise to the city's 3,400 m altitude by taking a slow stroll around the many Inca-built walls that line Cuzco's central streets. Then perhaps visit the stone fortress of Sacsayhuaman, which looks out over the city from a hilltop position - Cuzco is a fascinating city brimming with history and tradition.
Day 6 Sacred Valley
Travel through the Sacred Valley and visit Pisac, known for its colourful artisan market, and Ollantaytambo, a geometrically perfect town. Keep an eye out for the maize crops covering the terraces that are carved high into the valley walls.
Days 7-10 Inca Trail
Get up close to the Peruvian wilderness on this challenging hike along the Inca Trail. Enjoy trekking, camping out and stopping to take in the panoramic vistas of snow-capped mountain peaks along the way. Amazing Machu Picchu is the final destination. There's plenty of time here to wander around the many buildings and a chance to marvel at the breathtaking ruins.
Day 11 Cuzco
Back in Cuzco, enjoy free time to rest or do some more exploring of the Urubamba River. For those hankering for more information about the Incas, head to the Museo Inka to spend the afternoon in this fascinating museum.
Days 12-13 Amazon Jungle
Head out into the glistening jungle with our local guides. Spot macaws, monkeys, peccary, otters and thousands of butterflies in the thick virgin jungle of the Amazon. A simple, but comfortable, eco-lodge is home for the night.
Days 14-15 Lima
A canoe trip back to civilisation, then it's onto Lima for some more sightseeing opportunities. Visit the many fine museums, descend into the creepy catacombs, view the changing of the guard at the Palacio de Gobierno or head to the cosmopolitan coastal districts to try some tasty seafood.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.

A THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE HOLIDAY WERE WE SAW MANY SIDES ON PERU FROM THE BUSY CITIES CUSCO LIMA AND PUNO TO THE PEACE OF THE MOUNTAINS AND THE JUNGLE

The Guides were really good and very informative. Great way to see the real Peru. The Amazon was great and would rather have had extra days there or time in the sacred valley, than the days we wasted travelling on public transport. But overall a great experience.

I really enjoyed my trip to peru and will definitely be travelling with Intrepid again. Visiting all the different areas of peru, I was surprised by the change in weather (although I really shouldn't have been!) Freezing cold in Cuzco (high altitude) and boiling hot in the jungle (almost sea level)
There was a lot of travelling involved and this made me realise the value of travelling light! Carrying bags on and off buses, boats, taxis and planes would have been much easier with smaller bags! Packing a lot less things and a bottle of travel wash would have been a much better idea!
