Day 1 Rio de Janeiro
Our journey begins in the world's ultimate party town, Rio. Check out the beaches and wild nightlife before heading south to Curitiba. From here, we head to the coast for a getaway on one of Brazil's laid-back coastal islands.
Days 2-4 Ilha Grande
Days 5-6 Curitiba
Days 7-9 Iguazu
Take a boat ride on the river beneath the thundering Iguazu Falls or admire them from dry land. In the outdoor playground of Bonito, snorkel in crystal clear rivers surrounded by multi-coloured fish or explore spectacular caves and waterfalls.
Days 10-11 Bonito
Days 12-13 Pantanal
Encounter the wild and wonderful in the Pantanal wetlands. Marvel at macaws, playful otters and pointy-toothed caimans. Over the border in Bolivia, leave the wilds behind and take an overnight train to the metropolis of Santa Cruz.
Days 14-15 Santa Cruz
Days 16-17 Sucre
Bolivia's official capital is a lovely town of museums, markets and colonial buildings. Compare shoe sizes on an optional day trip to see 60 million year old dinosaur tracks.
Days 18-19 Potosi
In the World Heritage town of Potosi take an optional excursion to Bolivia's dark underbelly. Visit the working silver mines for a truly eye-opening experience. For those who prefer to stay in the daylight, there are plenty of other sights to see.
Days 20-23 Salar de Uyuni
Travel across blinding white salt flats of the Salar de Uyuni and explore the otherworldly landscapes of Bolivia's south-west. See volcanoes, geysers and multi-coloured lakes dotted with pink flamingos.
Days 24-25 La Paz
At around 3,600 m (12,000 ft) above sea level, La Paz feels like the top of the world. Despite the abundance of colonial architecture, this town's indigenous roots run deep. Wander the market-filled streets, visit the beautiful San Francisco Cathedral or take a look at the Coca Museum for an insight into the plant that plays an essential role in the lives of people in the Andes.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.

Be careful when travelling on the local buses in Rio (I got my wallet stolen). Don't go to the waterfall at Ilha Grande. Do the boat ride and helicopter ride at Iguazu
Falls they are both fantastic. Bring a sleeping bag, the ones we booked for the salt flats never arrived and it was -15, also there are some long and cold journeys (19 hours on 3 buses getting from one place to another, 20 hours on the Death train going across Bolivi), take a music player for the journeys.

Intrepid was great, the group of people I ended up with on a basix tour was perfect: young, outgoing and keen to see the sites. Brazil was a blast but Boliviar was definitely the highlight. Salar de Uyuni is not to be missed. The guides are also incredibly knoligable, adapt to your particular needs and take all the hassle out of travel, particularly if this is your first time. Enjoy.

This trip with Intrepid was so much fun and a real insight into Latin American culture and way of life. I had the time of my life there and i already miss it.
