Days 1-2 Shanghai
China's incredible economic growth is most obvious in Shanghai, a cosmopolitan city with an atmosphere like no other. Take a walk through China's art history at the Shanghai Museum, stroll along the Bund for a taste of colonial times and stand in awe at the city's space-age skyline.
Day 3 Nanjing
The palace ruins, city gates and historic Drum and Bell Towers of Nanjing are reminders of its glorious Ming past. Visit Sun Yat Sen's mausoleum, the Nanjing Museum and the Memorial Hall, which commemorates the 1937 Nanjing Massacre.
Days 4-6 Yangzi River
Sit back and experience the evolving scenery of the Yangzi River on a boat journey through the Three Gorges. Take a side trip down one of the Yangzi's picturesque tributaries and get a glimpse of a river that is essential to the lives of millions of people.
Days 7-9 Xi'an
This ancient capital and starting point of the Silk Road is also home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of our time - the life-size army of Terracotta Warriors.
Day 10 Beijing
Step back in time and wander in the footsteps of former emperors in the vast Forbidden City. Take a walk among the kite-flyers and joggers in Tiananmen Square and explore the energetic back-street hutongs of buzzing Beijing.
Days 11-12 Great Wall
Explore the ultimate Chinese icon - the inspiring Great Wall - and get a feel for the long history of this ancient kingdom. Wander along remote sections of the wall and sleep in simple guesthouses along the way.
Days 13-14 Beijing
Step back in time and wander in the footsteps of former emperors in the vast Forbidden City. Take a walk among the people in Tiananmen Square and explore the energetic back-street hutongs of buzzing Beijing.
