Days 1-2 Dili

Parts of Dili are still being rebuilt but Timor-Leste's fascinating capital has come a long way since 1999 and continues to develop its own unique identity.

Days 3-4 Maubisse/Hato Builiko

The area surrounding scenic mountain town of Maubisse has great views, cool mountain air and fertile soil. The small village of Hato Builiko hosts a wonderful market where colourful residents from the surrounding area selling and trade their wares.

Days 5-6 Suai

The district capital of Cova Lima, Suai is renowned for traditional crafts (particularly cloth weaving), agriculture and soccer.

Day 7 Dili

Located in the north-west of Timor-Leste, Dili is quite small, sandwiched between steep hills on the southern and eastern sides and Dili Harbour to the north.

Days 8-9 Atauro Island

Atauro Island is home to some of the best coral reefs in the world and the breeding grounds for hundreds of species of fish fringe the island.

Days 10-11 Baucau

The second largest town in Timor-Leste, Baucau has many remnants of Portuguese administration and the more recent Indonesian occupation in the form of large houses, churches and other public buildings.

Days 12-13 Los Palos

Los Palos receives high rainfall so it's tropical and lush, though if there has been heavy rain it can be difficult to access.

Days 14-15 Dili

Dili's busy and colourful markets are wonderful places to explore and the Xanana Gusmao Reading Room offers plenty of resources on Timor-Leste's history and culture.
