Kilimanjaro Machame Route Independent SummaryAdd to Shortlist
Nestled at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro, Marangu is a small village surrounded by stunning vistas and lush forest.
Start with a pleasant stroll through the rainforest, where many species of brightly coloured birds can be seen, before setting up camp at Machame for your first night on Kilimanjaro.
Continue up into moor land, where the vegetation becomes more sparse, and enjoy excellent views of the snow-dusted Kibo peaks from our campsite on the edge of Shira Plateau.
Ascend to the more rugged areas of the mountain and spend the night at Barranco Camp - a scenic location with great views of the Kibo Massif and its magnificent surrounds.
It's a tough slog up to Barafu Camp - Barafu is Kiswahili for 'ice' and it's a very fitting name - but you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Hiem, Kersten and Rebmann glaciers above.
Perhaps see snow on the challenging climb to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m) and feel the exhilaration while witnessing never-to-be-forgotten views of the crater, ice fields and lands below.
Marangu's hotel offers a lush garden, hot showers, a pool and a bar/restaurant - all watched over by the stunning peaks of Kilimanjaro.
