Day 1 Nairobi
Get ready for an animal-spotting adventure through Africa. If arriving early, Kenya's renowned National Museum is a popular place to visit in Nairobi.

Day 2 Lake Nakuru
Depart Nairobi and travel to Lake Nakuru, a favourite spot for birdlife. See a pink-feathered sea of flamingos and try to spot rhinos on a game drive through Nakuru park. Meet local children at the Saidia Children's Home Project.

Days 3-4 Eldoret/Kampala
Cross the border into Uganda and camp near the city of Kampala.

Days 5-6 Kibale Forest National Park
This equatorial rainforest in Kibale Forest National Park is home to the highest concentration of primates in the world, the ideal place to go chimp spotting. Enjoy a walking safari and watch the resident chimpanzees squabbling and playing. Wander through the surrounding tea plantations to visit villages or simply kick back at camp in the grounds of an old colonial bungalow.

Day 7 Queen Elizabeth National Park
Set between the Edward and George lakes in the Great Rift Valley, the Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to a wide array of wildlife. Embark on a safari tour to try to spot elephants, lions, buffaloes and antelopes. Cruise the Kazinga Channel where pelicans and eagles soar and hippos wallow.

Day 8 Lake Bunyonyi
Hire a traditional dugout canoe and glide across Lake Bunyonyi to enjoy the amazing scenery, which is some of the most picturesque in Uganda.

Days 9-11 Gorilla Trek
Make tracks across the border into Rwanda and set up camp at Ruhengeri, gateway to the gorilla trekking region. Accompanied by a local guide and trackers, hike through rugged terrain to come face-to-face with rare mountain gorillas - the sight of these gentle mountain giants is unforgettable. Head out on rainforest hikes to glimpse some of the forest's other inhabitants and pay a visit to the moving Kigali Genocide Memorial.

Day 12 Lake Mburo
Travel back into Uganda and on to Lake Mburo, home to the giant eland antelope. Discover plenty of other magnificent animals on walking safaris through this secluded park, which sits alongside Mburo.

Days 13-14 Jinja
Stop at the equator en route to the place thrillseekers flock to in Uganda. Jinja is both a scenic riverside retreat and renowned spot for adventure activity enthusiasts.

Days 15-16 Eldoret/Nairobi
Pass through Eldoret on the way back to the busy streets of Nairobi.

Day 17 Mto Wa Mbu
Travel to Arusha before setting up camp in a Tanzanian village. Spend the next morning exploring this fascinating area in free time.

Days 18-19 Ngorongoro Crater/Serengeti National Park
Descend to the floor of Ngorongoro Crater to spot rhinos, elephants and zebras before heading out across the Serengeti plains.

Day 20 Mto Wa Mbu
Travel to Mto Wa Mbu and explore the village and the market on a walk with the group.

Day 21 Marangu
Camp amid tropical gardens on the slopes of mighty Mt Kilimanjaro.

Day 22 Dar es Salaam
Pitch tents on a beach just outside the coastal city of Dar es Salaam.

Days 23-25 Zanzibar
Be enchanted by exotic spice plantations, ornate architecture and beachside sunsets in Zanzibar. Be sure to sample a spicy seafood curry.

Day 26 Dar es Salaam
Return to the mainland by ferry and stay at a beachside camp near Dar es Salaam.

Days 27-28 Iringa/Chitimba
Travel through the Mikumi National Park where giraffes are often seen munching on acacia foliage. Spend a night in the highland town of Iringa, before heading onwards into Malawi.

Days 29-30 Lake Malawi
Travel south to vast Lake Malawi, which covers roughly a fifth of the country. Relax on the beach and meet friendly Malawians.

Days 31-32 Chipata/Lusaka
Begin a long voyage across the continent to Zambia, stopping off in Malawi's capital city of Lilongwe for supplies. The following morning, drive onwards towards Lusaka and become immersed in the surrounding spectacular scenery.

Day 33 Harare
Explore galleries, museums and gardens in Harare.

Day 34 Masvingo
Visit the Great Zimbabwe Ruins and discover some of the most significant ancient ruins in Africa.

Days 35-36 Bulawayo
Peruse the many markets in the city of Bulawayo before venturing out into Matobo National Park in search of rare rhinos.

Day 37 Hwange National Park
Hwange National Park has been transformed from royal hunting grounds into a sanctuary for some of Africa's most precious animals. Keep watch for elephants on a game drive through the park.

Days 38-39 Victoria Falls
Witness the tremendous power of Victoria Falls as torrents of water cascade into the canyon below. As this tour of Africa draws to an end, share a final dinner with new friends.
