Day 1 Seeduwa

Welcome to this Sri Lankan family adventure! Take your time settling into the hotel, perhaps taking a dip in the pool before meeting everyone.

Days 2-3 Dambulla

Travel straight to the heart of the island and shake off any cobwebs with a climb to the top of Sigiriya’s spectacular Lion Rock. Reach the ruins of a fortified palace at the summit and take in the incredible panoramic views.

Day 4 Polonnaruwa

Between November and April, set off early to watch the mist rise from the vast Lake Parakrama, Marvel at the magnificent birdlife and visit a nearby village to find out more about the local lifestyle and the role fishing plays within it. Between May and October, enjoy free time to explore the area. Then travel to the one-time capital of Polonnaruwa to explore its well-preserved ancient ruins.

Days 5-6 Kandy

Explore Sri Lanka’s largest cave temple complex and be amazed at the ornate frescoes that decorate the cave monastery at Dambulla. Pass coffee plantations on the journey south to scenic Kandy and visit the Temple of the Tooth, where a tooth of Lord Buddha is enshrined. Stroll through the city’s wonderful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, a haven of tranquillity, and be bowled over by its natural charms.

Day 7 Kitulgala

Head through hill country to adventure-filled Kitulgala. Explore the spectacular jungle terrain and enjoy a canoe ride down the Kelani River, which famously featured in the film “Bridge on the River Kwai”.

Days 8-9 Nuwara Eliya/Bandarawela

Enjoy a scenic journey past lush green hills and gushing waterfalls to Nuwara Eliya. Visit a tea factory in the tea capital of Sri Lanka, which was once known as 'Little England' by British colonialists.

Day 10 Bandarawela

Follow the winding valley roads to a tea plantation and spend a night sleeping under canvas in this wonderfully remote spot surrounded by nature and stars.

Day 11 Uda Walawe National Park

Discover how the majestic elephant has been part of Sri Lankan culture for many centuries while visiting the Elephant Transit Home. Arrive at this centre during feeding time and see how this important organisation helps rehabilitate and release elephants back into the wild. Set off on a jeep safari in search of the many herds of wild elephant that call Uda Walawe home. Finally, continue to the coast and fall asleep the sound of crashing waves.

Days 12-13 Beach

Take it easy on Sri Lanka’s tropical beaches, soaking up the laidback atmosphere and taking the occasional dip in the Indian Ocean’s deliciously warm waters.

Days 14-15 Seeduwa

Journey north back up the coast and walk along the walls and narrow streets of Galle Dutch Fort. Travel on to the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, which was set up to help protect Sri Lanka’s turtles against the threat of extinction. After such an action and animal-packed holiday, why not spend the final night swapping memories with the family’s new-found friends.
