Days 1-2 Sigiriya/Dambulla

Get warmed up with a cycle down the narrow and often-deserted roads surrounding Sigiriya. Delve into the 3rd-century caves at Dambulla, home to dozens of Buddhist statues and a monastery tucked inside the cliff face. Then, climb to the summit of Sigiriya to admire the intricate frescoes painted onto the rock face and take in superb 360-degree views.

Day 3 Polonnaruwa

Relish the peaceful backroads of the Sigiriya Nature Reserve before hitting the highway to Polonnaruwa. Perhaps refresh with a swim in the pool before checking out some 10th-century ruins.

Day 4 Matale Region

Cycle through canals before stop for lunch alongside the Amban Ganga River. In the afternoon, embark on a breathtaking ride with the Kalanduwa hills on one side and the borders of Wasgomuwa Wildlife Park on the other. Refuel with a hearty home-cooked curry served in traditional clay pots.

Days 5-6 Kandy

The going starts to get harder as the tour winds up into hill country. Upon arrival in Kandy, spend a free afternoon perusing the spice markets and local sights, perhaps visiting the famous Temple of the Tooth.

Day 7 Nuwara Eliya

Get set for a tough day in the saddle or, choose to relax aboard the train. Take in views of terraced paddy fields while sipping on fragrant, locally grown tea.

Day 8 Ella

In the morning, visit an aromatic tea factory before cycling to Ella, stopping along the way for lunch and a tea break at local eateries. Watch an ochre sunset from the view point at Ella Gap.

Days 9-10 Tissamaharama/Yala National Park

After an exhilarating descent on two wheels, stop to inspect the impressive Buddha statues at Buduruvagala, nestled amid a peaceful lakeside setting. Try to spot leopards in the belly of Yala National Park and absorb the colourful atmosphere of ancient Kataragama temple, where locals partake in the noisy night-time ritual of pooja.

Days 11-12 Ahangama

Ride alongside the Bundala Bird Sanctuary, where flamingos can be spotted at certain times during the year. Then, lap up the spoils of a tropical beachside setting, making sure to admire the skill of stilt fishermen, who balance precariously above the breaking waves.

Days 13-14 Galle/Colombo

Explore Galle’s old Dutch fort, built in the 16th century, before continuing on to Colombo, where the journey ends.
