Itinerary

Embrace the Madrileno spirit of living the good life by hitting the many museums, restaurants, shopping strips and bars of Madrid. Stroll along the Paseo del Arte (Art Walk) to view some of the finest collections of art in the world, including works by Picasso and Dali. Arriving a few days early is a must for those that want to properly experience all that this captivating city has to offer.
Bask amid the grand rooms, towering domes, glorious gardens, perfectly proportioned courtyards and ornate fountains of Alhambra Palace in Granada. During free time, roam through Granada's alluring Arab Quarter, Albayzin, where the charm of spacious plazas, whitewashed houses and labyrinthine streets is enhanced by sweeping views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Experience the electric atmosphere of an authentic flamenco performance in Seville, and witness the collision of music, dance, passion and drama. At night, make the most of Seville's reputation as the tapas capital of Spain by munching through as many mouth-watering dishes as possible.
Travel by bus across fertile plains dotted with olive groves, orange orchards and maize fields to reach the Algarve, mainland Portugal’s stunning southern coastal region. Walk along the seaside promenade in Olhao, watching fishing boats bob in the water, or dawdle among historical buildings that date back to Moorish times. At night, feast on freshly caught fish at a restaurant or cafe overlooking the water and behold a golden sky at sunset.
Get acquainted with Portugal’s dynamic capital on an orientation walk. Visit the medieval citadel perched atop a hill for an incredible view of Lisbon’s attractive cityscape – white houses, terracotta rooftops and deep blue ocean. By day, wander tree-lined streets, admire gothic cathedrals and marvel at ancient and contemporary works of art in museums. By night, sip wine and people watch in Bairro Alto - the heart of Lisbon’s bar and restaurant scene - while listening to the sounds of jazz and fado (traditional Portuguese music).
Indulge in a port tasting in Porto, the namesake of the sweet fortified wine. If sampling the best from the region piques curiosity, why not learn more about the history of wine and port making at the Museu do Vinho. Alternatively, wile away the afternoon by meandering through the collection of twisting alleys, criss-crossing staircases and baroque churches that make up the World Heritage-listed Ribeira district.
Watch travellers follow in the footsteps of Saint James at the final stage of the 800 km Camino de Santiago pilgrimage.
Encounter progressive art, superb dining and thumping nightlife in Barcelona. Visit Gaudi's bizarre La Sagrada Familia Cathedral on an orientation walk. Perhaps get up-to-date with the latest European fashions, wander the leafy pedestrian boulevard or squeeze in some last-minute culture at the Picasso Museum before saying adios to this Spain and Portugal adventure.
