Day 1 St Petersburg

Simply bursting with intriguing sights and culture, get ready to be wowed by St Petersburg - it's opulent, sophisticated, historic and drop-dead gorgeous.

Day 2 Pushkin

Home to the magnificent Catherine Palace, the old St Petersburg suburb of Tsarskoe Selo is now known as Pushkin, after Russia's most celebrated poet.

Day 3 Suzdal

Crumbling churches and charming wooden cottages line the narrow streets of Suzdal, one of the fascinating towns which make up Russia’s historic Golden Ring.

Days 4-5 Nizhny Novgorod

Named Gorky during Soviet times after the famous local writer, the location of Nizhniy Novgorod's ancient kremlin, on the bank of the river Volga, is simply stunning.

Days 6-7 Kazan

Kazan is the capital of the Tatarstan Republic, so listen out for Tatar being spoken on the streets and look for the Tatarstan flag flying proudly alongside the flag of Russia.

Days 8-10 Yekaterinburg

The gateway between European and Siberian Russia, Yekaterinburg is best known as the place of exile and execution of the last Russian royal family, the Romanovs.

Day 11 Tobolsk/Pokrovskoye

Tobolsk was one of the first settlements in Siberia but having been bypassed by the main Trans-Siberian Railway, it long resisted modernisation and still has an entrancing Old Town and Kremlin. Birthplace of the notorious Rasputin, the village of Pokrovskoye is great place to experience a Russian banya (steam room) and enjoy a traditional home-cooked meal.

Days 12-13 Tyumen/Trans Siberian Railway

The world's most famous train line, the Trans-Siberian is also the longest - winding its way through forests, small Siberian villages and big industrial cities to the far-flung reaches of Russia.

Days 14-15 Moscow

Whether it's awe-inspiring history, iconic architecture, edgy creative centres or stylish bars and cafes, Moscow delivers on so many levels with a surprise around every corner.
