Days 1-3 St Petersburg

Take in the sights and spectacles of one of Europe’s most aesthetically astounding and historically vibrant cities. Explore the alleys and canals of this ‘Venice of the East’ destination. Visit its splendid palaces and cathedrals, or hit up the shops, museums and markets.

Day 4 Petrodvorets/Pushkin

Cruise across the Gulf of Finland for a guided tour of the grand and stately Petrodvorets – Peter the Great’s humble summer abode.

Days 5-6 Moscow

Head out to Russia’s most famous landmark – St Basil’s Cathedral in the Red Square. Venture inside to learn about its construction, or take advantage of plentiful photo opportunities from a distance. Enter the Kremlin grounds and be dazzled by the ornaments on display in the Armoury Museum.

Day 7 Sergiev Posad

Indulge in some time-honoured Russian pampering – a thorough soak and steam followed by some hearty regional cuisine.

Day 8 Abramtsevo/Overnight train

Walk the grounds and halls of Abramtsevo Estate, where Gogol and Turgenev penned some of their masterpieces and Repin dipped his brush. Bunk down in first-class comfort for the overnight train ride into Ukraine.

Day 9 Petrushivka

Get to know Cossack culture in the village of Petrushivka. Break bread and cultural barriers over dinner with a local Ukrainian family.

Days 10-12 Kyiv

Take a guided walk through Kiev's cultural heart and witness the splendour of its grand theatres, fascinating museums, cobbled streets and beautiful parks.
