About Peru

Peru Family - Teens on the Inca Trail Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Lima

Lima is a large, fascinating hotchpotch of architectural styles, coastal scenes, world cuisines, impressive museums, traditional culture and modern arts and nightlife.

Days 2-4 Cuzco

Cuzco is the gateway to Machu Picchu and a city with majestic architecture, impressive ruins, a lively town centre and cultural significance around every cobblestone corner.

Day 5 Sacred Valley

The Sacred Valley was once the heartland of the Inca Empire and now contains picturesque villages and impressive archeological sites.

Day 6 Chinchero

The villagers of Chinchero are famous for their weaving skills and they can be seen tending their fields in traditional dress or offering their textiles in the colourful local market.

Day 7 Ollantaytambo

Continue on to the peaceful little town of Ollantaytambo – the only Inca stronghold ever to have resisted persistent Spanish attacks. Clamber the terraced ruins of this ancient metropolis, or nestle back in one of the quaint hole-in-the-wall eateries and watch the world crawl by at snail's pace.

Days 8-11 Inca Trail/Machu Picchu

Winding around mountains, through valleys and up steep slopes, the iconic Inca Trail is a series of beautiful vistas and challenging hikes all the way to Machu Picchu. Built sometime in the 15th century and rediscovered in 1911, the staggering ruins of Machu Picchu were thought to be an estate for the Incan emperor, Pachacuti.

Days 12-14 Cuzco

A World Heritage site set among red-green hills with ruins scattered close by, Cuzco is impressive in every way - be it history, culture, nightlife or architecture.
