Dive into the sights and delights of Lima and let this Peruvian adventure begin.
Set out on a guided downtown tour of Lima before heading to Pisco, the birthplace of Peru's much-acclaimed national libation.
A haven for birdlife, wildlife enthusiasts can opt to visit the Paracas National Reserve for a chance to spot pelicans, red-footed boobies and flamingos. Photograph the dramatic sand dunes and picturesque lagoon of Huacachina before heading to one of the world's most mysterious archaeological sites, the Nazca Lines. Explore the eerie desert graveyard of Chauchilla, where the arid conditions have naturally interred the remains of the Nazca people buried here.
Situated at the foot of imposing volcano El Misti and replete with colonial architecture, Arequipa's charm quickly becomes evident. Visit the Monasterio de Santa Catalina for an insight into what life was like in the religious service and marvel at the gleaming buildings fashioned from pale volcanic rock.
Spot llamas, alpacas and vicunas – alpacas' wild ancestors – on the way to Chivay. Gaze in awe at the depth of the Colca Canyon while keeping an eye out for resident Andean condors, one of the world's largest flying birds. Spend the evening relaxing in thermal baths, dining on a llama steak or listening to live Andean music at a pena before getting a taste of local life on a family homestay.
Cross the Andes to explore the vast expanse of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Visit the floating islands and learn about local culture during a homestay with a local family.
Discover Inca ruins and baroque churches in the continent's oldest city, Cuzco. Perhaps hop on a local bus and head out to the Sacred Valley or have lunch at Aldea Yanapay Cafe – all profits go to supporting the city's underprivileged kids.
Embark on the trek of a lifetime through dense forest and high plateaux, up the steps of the Sun Gate to the breathtaking sight of Machu Picchu. Spend a day exploring and learning about these fascinating ruins and their ancient history.
Return to Cuzco and spend some more time getting to know this charming city. Shop for quirky souvenirs at the colourful local markets, hit the surrounding hills atop a mountain bike or simply rest those weary legs at a cafe around the Plaza de Armas.
Fly to Puerto Maldonado. Travel by canoe into the lush Amazon Jungle to stay in an eco-friendly lodge. Explore the jungle with local guides to spot unique flora and fauna, and learn about the practical and medicinal uses of native plants.
Catch a flight back to Lima for a final night in this cosmopolitan capital city before bidding adios to mighty and mystical Peru.
