Day 1 Lima
See the major sights of Peru's capital on a walking tour of this city shrouded in history. In free time, why not hit the intriguing Monasterio de San Francisco to explore the dark tunnels that lead to an eerie underground cemetery. Or perhaps dine out at a restaurant in the funky Miraflores area of Lima.

Day 2 Cuzco
Get acquainted with the intriguing blend of Inca and Spanish cultures and discover some of Cuzco's lesser-known sights on a guided walking tour. Take the opportunity to taste unique mate de coca (coca tea).

Day 3 Sacred Valley/Ollantaytambo
Learn about the local lifestyle and admire the picturesque scenery on a drive through the beautiful Sacred Valley. Browse markets for traditional handicrafts and pick up a few words of the Quechua language during a community visit. Spend the night in ancient Ollantaytambo.

Days 4-5 Cuzco
With ample free time - and an entry ticket to many of Cuzco's fascinating attractions - it'll be easy to go exploring here. Head out to see the archaeological sites of Saqsayhuaman, Qenqo and Tambomachay, all of which are located just on the outskirts of town.

Day 6 Aguas Calientes
Travel by train from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes through the winding, fertile Urubamba Valley. Aguas Calientes is the gateway to Machu Picchu and home to simmering hot springs. Enjoy a restorative soak in the springs during the afternoon. Alternatively, why not take a short walk to a nearby waterfall or visit a butterfly farm.

Day 7 Machu Picchu/Cuzco
Wake early for a morning bus ride to monumental Machu Picchu. Spend the day exploring the ancient ruins with a local guide. Marvel at the timeless structures, reminders of a once-powerful empire. The scale of Machu Picchu is truly impressive and offers many iconic photo opportunities. Return to Cuzco after a day of awesome adventuring.

Day 8 Cuzco
Say farewell to the colours of Cuzco. Why not take the time to sample local cuisine or browse the shops and markets to pick up a memento before departing.
