Day 4 Templeton's Crossing II
Begin the day with a stirring visit to the Isurava Battlefield, the site of a memorial engraved with the words ‘Courage, Sacrifice, Mateship and Endurance.’ Contemplate these virtues on the way to Iora Creek, crossing pristine mountain streams and following a narrow ridge toward Templeton’s Crossing - a former Australian supply facility that became a burial ground for those who lost their lives during the battle of Iora Creek.

Day 5 Digger's Camp
Reach the highest point of the trek, Mt Bellamy, and begin to appreciate the difficult terrain that Australian, Japanese and American troops endured, often under fire. After enjoying jaw-dropping views over the entire mountain range, continue along the steep, muddy paths toward Digger’s Camp, taking a walk to a nearby airstrip in the afternoon.

Day 7 Nauro
Rise early for the journey to Mission Ridge, following the path taken by retreating Australian soldiers that ultimately led them into the ambush at Brigade Hill. Look back toward Mt Bellamy and imagine what it must have been like to see 10,000 Japanese soldiers advancing toward the hill. Descend to Menari and be welcomed by the local villagers, including one of the last three remaining Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels. Continue on to Nauro and end the day relaxing around a warm campfire.

Day 8 Ioribaiwa
Grit the teeth and push on through the ‘Nine False Peaks’, a series of steep ascents that will challenge the body and the spirit. Reach Iorbaiwa, the final stronghold of the Japanese, in the afternoon. On a clear day, it is possible to glimpse Port Moresby in the distance.

Day 9 Owers Corner
Get the feet wet by wading across a total of 9 rivers on the way to Va'Ule creek. From here, tackle the ‘Golden Staircase’, the site of a long-lost staircase that was used to transport artillery and other supplies from Port Moresby. Make the final push to Owers Corner and feel the rush of completing the Kokoda Trail. On the return to Port Moresby, take one final opportunity to contemplate the sacrifices made on this arduous route by visiting Bomana War Cemetery – the final resting place of 3600 brave soldiers.
