Consistently ranked as one of the top 10 treks in the world, the Annapurna Circuit is a stunning blend of flame-red rhododendron forests, shady stands of oak, crystal-clear alpine rivers, ancient teahouses and jagged Himalayan peaks. It’s a demanding trek, but the rewards speak for themselves. Visit tiny mountain hamlets, sample local delicacies and bathe in steaming thermal hot springs beneath an impossible blue sky. Oh, did we mention it’s cheaper than Everest too?
Best time to visit
Like Everest, the best times to trek the Annapurna Range are pre- and post-monsoon: March to April and September to November. If you want to catch the rhododendrons in full bloom, book your trek for March or mid-April. Seventy per cent of the region’s rainfall occurs between June and September, so avoid these monsoon months and there’ll be a high chance of a dry trek.
Life on the trek
The Annapurna is a challenging region for hikers, with trekking usually lasting between three and nine hours per day. Porters and guides are on-hand to help with your packs, and we’ll take care of all park permits and internal flights. Accommodation takes the form of traditional local teahouses, which are comfortable but basic. Most meals aren’t included in our Annapurna adventures, but there are plenty of opportunities to sample local cuisine along the route.
