Day 1 Kuala Lumpur

Arrive in the city often referred to as ‘KL’, the centre of modern-day Malaysia. Explore the city by day and, if energy levels permit, get a feel for the city’s pulse at the night market in Chinatown.

Days 2-3 Kampung Kuantan/Batu Caves Hill

Let the adventure begin with a visit to the small village of Kampung Kuantan. Explore the nearby fort and bird sanctuary of Kota Melawati and get ready for the famous night-time natural performance. From a rowing boat, watch in awe as the evening’s darkness is interrupted by the twinkling fireflies that lives in the mangroves. Cycle through the Forest Research Institute Malaysia and explore the treetops on a canopy walk. Finally, head out of town to the spectacular cave temples and stalagmites of Batu Caves.

Day 4 Kuala Pilah

Get a taste of traditional village life staying with a local family. Learn how to tap trees for rubber, help make delicious Malay sweet delicacies and let the children learn about each others’ cultures while playing together.

Days 5-6 Taman Negara National Park

After a day of travelling by rail and road, arrive in this ancient tropical rainforest said to be over 130 million years old. For an adventure to remember, why not join a guided night walk into the sprawling jungle. Keep a look out for the exotic wildlife that Taman Negara National Park is a haven for, from monkeys and birds to elephant and rhino, and get a different perspective on the lush landscape from a canopy walkway. Escape the steamy jungle with a boat trip to the Lata Berkoh.Cascades and a swim in the cool waters.

Days 7-8 Cameron Highlands

Travel to the rolling green hills of the Cameron Highlands and breathe in the refreshing mountain air. Marvel at the English atmosphere of these extensive hill stations, visit the BOH tea factory to find out how tea is made and enjoy wonderful views from the estate’s highest viewpoint.

Day 9 Lumut

Enjoy a scenic stopover at Iskander Waterfalls on the drive to Lumut. Perhaps enjoy a short dip in the pools found on each of the cascade’s tiers or purchase a beautifully crafted souvenir from the nearby basket weavers. Visit the fascinating cave temples at Ipoh and seek out the wild residents of mangrove forest along the way.

Days 10-11 Turtle Breeding Station

Get up close to the young turtles that a conservation project is trying to save from extinction at Segari. Head on to Taiping and soak up the colonial feel of one of Malaysia’s oldest towns.

Days 12-14 Penang

Regarded by many as the food capital of Malaysia, tuck into the interesting flavours of the local food, pungent aromas of the Tropical Spice Garden and sniff out the old world charm of Georgetown. Perhaps use the free time here to savour the proximity of the nearby sandy beaches and discover why Penang is nicknamed the Pearl of the Orient. Having enjoyed the many flavours of Malaysia, it’s time to head home fulfilled yet with a craving to do it all again.
