Day 1 Kota Kinabalu

Why not get into holiday mode with a beach excursion, go river rafting, head into the jungle for a warm-up hike or take a boat trip to Tunku Abdul National Marine Park. Or, if seeking something a little more cultural, perhaps visit the Sabah Museum or a nearby Monosopiad village.

Day 2 Mt Kinabalu

Venture into the Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia’s first World Heritage-listed site, along winding roads lined with centuries old trees. The flora and fauna in this parkland will leave you gob-smacked – keep your eyes peeled for all sorts of orchids, ferns, animals and birdlife. Amble across the jungle rooftop on a canopy walk and soak up phenomenal views of Mt Kinabalu before soothing sore muscles at the Poring Hot Springs. Tonight we stay in the grounds of a beautiful tea garden.

Days 3-4 Kinabatangan River

Catch a glimpse of the sunrise on a morning walk through the tea plantation. Afterwards, take a tour of the tea factory itself and sip samples of delicious local varieties. Drive out to Kinabatangan River and spend an afternoon cruising down the river – the perfect way to spot wildlife. Enjoy another day of walking and river cruising before spending the night at the exclusive Myne Resort.

Day 5 Sandakan

Sandakan was once the capital of British North Borneo and traditionally has strong trading ties with Hong Kong. The Cantonese influence is evident in the lively harbourside market, the many Chinese temples and the local cuisine. On the way we stop by Sandakan's tragic war memorial to pay respects to those who died during the infamous 'Death Marches' of WWII.

Day 6 Sandakan/Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary

Continue on to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and fall in love with these beautiful, big-eyed creatures as they swing gleefully between branches or feed on a special diet of bananas and milk. Then, visit the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary and watch these bizarre-looking animals lazing about.

Days 7-8 Manukan Island

Swap jungle paths for the warm waters of the South China Sea and head for Manukan Island - a tropical paradise that is just a stone's throw away from Kota Kinabalu. Embark on a snorkelling trip and dive through schools of brightly coloured fish before kicking back on the beach or exploring the island.

Days 9-10 Kota Kinabalu

Board a plane back to Kota Kinabalu and enjoy the chance to laze about at our tropical beachside location. While here, perhaps try one of the many water-based pursuits on offer before toasting the end of a sensational trip with new-found friends.
