Day 4 Sandakan

Sandakan was once the capital of British North Borneo and traditionally has strong trading ties with Hong Kong. The Cantonese influence is evident in the lively harbourside market, the many Chinese temples and the local cuisine. On the way we stop by Sandakan's tragic war memorial to pay respects to those who died during the infamous 'Death Marches' of WWII.

Continue on to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and fall in love with these beautiful, big-eyed creatures as they swing gleefully between branches or feed on a special diet of bananas and milk. Then, visit the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary and watch these bizarre-looking animals lazing about.
