About Cambodia , Laos , Thailand

Bangkok to Luang Prabang Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Bangkok

Loud, bright, chaotic and delightful, Bangkok is a city of modern excesses intermingled with simple traditions, all wrapped up in the famous smiles of the locals.

Day 2 Aranyaprathet

The Thai border town of Aranyaprathet is a popular crossing point between Thailand and Cambodia and has a lively nightlife due to its casinos and lively markets.

Days 3-5 Siem Reap/Angkor Wat

A vibrant nightlife, mouth-watering food, a time-worn French feel and certain famous temples on its doorstep - Siem Reap is a little town with a big, pulsating heart. Immense, awe-inspiring, extraordinary - the Angkor Wat temples are all this and much more. Built in the 12th century, this former Khmer city is nothing short of spectacular.

Day 6 Kompong Thom

A fairly short drive this morning (Approx. 150 kms) brings us to Sambor Prei Kuk, Cambodia's most impressive group of pre-Angkorian monuments. We have plenty of time to explore the ruins which are remote and clad in thick jungle. We then drive to Kompong Thom where we spend the night in the house of a local family.

Days 7-8 Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh celebrates life with optimism and colour, and there are a wealth of riverside eateries, bustling markets and historic sites - both tragic and inspiring - to discover.

Days 9-10 Kratie

Kratie is situated in the northeast of Cambodia on the banks of the Mekong River and has some of the best sunsets along the River. The area is also known to be the best place to spot Irrawaddy dolphin.

Day 11 Don Khong

Cross over the border to southern Laos (Approx 245 kms) and continue our journey to Si Phan Don, otherwise known as the 4,000 Islands.

Day 12 Pakse

With the fertile Bolaven Plateau close by, Pakse is a trading town with a thriving market and a pleasantly sleepy atmosphere.

Day 13 Thakhek

A full day's drive to the town Thakhek, located in south-central Laos and on the Mekong River.

Days 14-15 Vang Vieng

Surrounded by stunning limestone karst scenery, Vang Vieng is a small haven with fascinating caves to explore, a myriad of water-based activities and a relaxed atmosphere.

Days 16-18 Luang Prabang

Nestled in the hills of northern Laos, the tranquil city of Luang Prabang is studded with ornate temples, brimming with colourful markets and enriched by French colonial architecture.
