Visit the magic mountains of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

Get right off the beaten track on this challenging trip into Central Asia's mountainous hinterland. Beginning in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent, travel through the fertile plains of the Fergana Valley before heading for the high country of remote Kyrgyzstan and the dramatically rugged Tian Shan. On a homestay, we'll experience the daily life of these mountain people while staying in yurts and riding mountain ponies. Lake Issyk-Kul offers plenty of hiking opportunities, and we'll camp in the wilds of the Ala-Toosu Mountains before heading down to Bishkek and civilisation. If you're after an out-of-the-box travel adventure through 'the Stans', then this trip is it.

Day 1 Tashkent

Welcome to Uzbekistan. Explore the streets of Tashkent and perhaps pay a visit to the lively Chorsu Bazaar.

Day 2 Kokand/Fergana City

Enter the Fergana Valley and see the palace of the former Khan of Kokand.

Day 3 Arslanbob

Make tracks across the Ferghana Valley into Kyrgyzstan.

Days 4-6 Kyrgyz Ferghana Valley

Take a leisurely three day journey through the stunning mountains and national parks of Kyrgyzstan's Fergana Valley.

Days 7-8 Song-Kol Lake

Spend the night in a yurt near Song-Kol Lake and join in a game of ulak-tartysh.

Day 9 Kochkor

Mingle with friendly locals and relish Kyrgyz hospitality while enjoying a homestay in Kochkor.

Days 10-11 Djety Oguz Valley

Admire the lofty sandstone cliffs in Djety Oguz Valley.

Day 12 Karakol

Discover the remote, picturesque town of Karakol, complete with quaint tree-lined streets and colonial houses.

Days 13-14 Chong Kemin National Park

Set off on a leisurely hike along Chong Kemin River - or if feeling adventurous, perhaps tackle one of the tough 4000 m passes.

Days 15-16 Bishkek

Relax on the final days in Bishek. Why not stroll through the city's markets and haggle for bargains. Alternatively, relaxing in an Oak Park cafe and reflecting on the adventure is another good option!
