Mount Kenya

Day 1 Nairobi/Mount Kenya Forest Reserve

Leave Nairobi city early in the morning and make tracks to Mountain Rock Lodge, arriving in time for lunch. Take a walk to the Mau Mau Caves, the hideout of former freedom fighters.

Day 2 Giant Bamboo Camp

Start the trek by acclimatising with a walk through a forest of towering bamboo and rosewood - keep a lookout for colourful birds and cheeky monkeys that play here.

Day 3 Highland Castle Camp

This morning’s hike is through steep terrain and fields of giant heather. Cross high altitude moorland that’s peppered with giant lobelia and senecio plants to reach camp that’s set up near spectacular lava cliffs. It’s possible to see zebra, elands and rock hyrax up this high and the views over the Burguret Valley are awe-inspiring.

Day 4 Shipton's Camp

Pass through stunning moorland scenery and soak up incredible views on the ascension to the Hausberg Col. Look for circling buzzards and eagles before descending to Shipton’s camp, which has panoramic views of the region’s peaks, including the awesome parasitic cones of Terere and Sendeyo.

Day 5 Mount Kenya Summit/Old Moses Camp

Rise before dawn with the aim to reach Mt Kenya's Point Lenana at sunrise - an amazing achievement. Descend to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast and continue on for a long day of walking to Old Moses Camp.

Day 6 Nairobi

Descend to the foot of Mt Kenya and return to Nairobi after a celebratory lunch.
