Mt Kenya Ascent Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Nairobi/Mount Kenya Forest Reserve

Once a swamp but now called the 'green city in the sun', Nairobi is a relatively multicultural city with a range of cuisines, museums and cultural centres to enjoy. Covering a broad area around the national park, Mount Kenya Forest Reserve encompasses a diverse range of habitats, which support a wealth of rare and endangered wildlife.

Day 2 Giant Bamboo Camp

The lower slopes of Mount Kenya are home to a beautiful array of flora and fauna, and this camp lies amidst stands of towering bamboo.

Day 3 Highland Castle Camp

Cross high-altitude moorland, dotted with giant lobelia and senecio plants, to Highland Castle Camp which is located close to the sheer lava cliffs.

Day 4 Shipton's Camp

With panoramic views of all the main peaks, Shipton's Camp is one of the few permanent camps on the mountain and our base for the final climb.

Day 5 Mount Kenya Summit/Old Moses Camp

The ultimate goal is Point Lenana - the least technical of Mt Kenya's majestic triple peaks but at 4985m it's the highest trekking destination in Kenya and the sunrise views are truly amazing.

Day 6 Nairobi

Lively Nairobi is the gateway to some of Africa's best national parks and is nicknamed 'the safari capital of the world'.
