Is tipping customary in Italy?

Tipping isn't customary in Italy; however, if restaurant service is particularly good or if you're feeling generous, a tip would be welcomed by most. Some restaurants charge a 'cover charge' which will be added to your bill.

What is the internet access like in Italy?

Internet access is good in Italy and internet cafes are easily found in most cities and major towns.

Can I use my mobile/cell phone while in Italy?

Mobile phone coverage is generally very good in Italy. Ensure global roaming is activated before you arrive.

What are the toilets like in Italy?

Western-style, flushable toilets are the standard in Italy. Expect to pay a small fee when using public toilets in some parts of Italy.

What will it cost for a…?

Cup of coffee = 2 Euro (less if you forego the table and stand up)
A glass of beer = 5 Euro
Bottle of wine in a restaurant = 16 Euro
Small gelato cone = 3 Euro

Can I drink the water in Italy?

Drinking water from taps in Italy is considered safe. For environmental reasons, try to use a refillable water bottle rather than buying bottled water.

Are credit cards accepted widely in Italy?

Major credit cards are widely accepted by stores in Italy. Smaller cafes and shops may not accept credit cards, so ensure you carry enough cash to cover small purchases.

What is ATM access like in Italy?

ATMs are common in Italy, so finding one won't be a problem in most towns and cities.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before travelling in Italy?

Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

Do I need a visa to travel to Italy?

Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveller. The visa requirements for your trip vary depending on where you are from and where you are going. As a general rule most countries expect that you will have at least 6 months' validity on your passport. On arrival visitors may be asked to present return tickets and evidence of means to cover your intended stay.
