Itinerary

Begin the adventure in Medan, the capital of north Sumatra. If arriving early, perhaps visit Maimoon Palace or the Graha Bunda Maria temple.
Travel to Lake Toba, the world's largest volcanic lake and home to the delightful Batak Toba people. Gain insights into this fascinating ancient culture on a full-day tour of the surrounding area.
Visit Sipiso-piso waterfall and Simalungun Palace, home to the last Batak king, before continuing to Dokan village. Experience an unforgettable evening of Batak hospitality during a homestay. Hike to the peak of Sibayak Volcano, spotting gibbons and monkeys cavorting in the treetops, and soak up impressive views at the summit. After the hike, soothe tired muscles in a nearby hot spring.
Uncover jungle secrets in Gunung Leuser National Park, home to many endangered species including tigers, elephants and rhinoceros. Join local guides on rainforest treks in search of orangutans, as well as rare and edible plants, and spend a night camping by the river.
Travel into Indonesia's stunning Gayo Highlands, enjoying spectacular views of rolling hills blanketed with coffee plantations. Explore the mysterious Loyang Koro Cave and perhaps sample a bottle of famous local brew while soaking up the serenity.
Meet the warm locals of Banda Aceh who courageously rebuilt after the 2004 tsunami. Join a tour with Network for Tsunami Aceh to fully understand the extent of the disaster. Take a boat ride to a nearby island, enjoy local cuisine at a night market and explore the sprawling Putroe Phang Park.
Bask in the tropical delights of Palau Weh, complete with cliff-side huts, palm trees and unspoilt beaches. Discover secluded bays on a snorkelling tour and enjoy an afternoon snooze in a hammock.
The adventure wraps up back in Medan. Say goodbye to beautiful Indonesia or stay or few more days and see the sights.
