Days 2-3 Royal Chitwan National Park

After the bustle and crush of Kathmandu, travel down to the jungle lowlands for a touch of peace and quiet. Visit the local elephants and seek out rare wildlife in the Royal Chitwan National Park.

Day 4 Sonauli

Spend a morning seeking out Chitwan's shy and rare one-horned rhino on a jungle walk or jeep safari then travel to the Nepal-India border.

Days 5-6 Varanasi

Set on the banks of the sacred River Ganges, Varanasi is awash with sights and sounds to overwhelm the senses. Learn the different uses of the ghats - both spiritual and secular.

Visit a second Indian national park - this one is famous for its tiger population. Take a safari and keep an eye out for the big cats, as well as deer, hyenas and porcupines.

Days 9-10 Khajuraho

Khajuraho was once the capital of the Chandella Kings who built the magnificent Hindu and Jain temples here around 1000 AD. Considered to be 'one of the seven wonders of India', the temples have been almost perfectly preserved.

Days 11-12 Agra

Days 13-14 Jaipur

Experience the eerie desolation of Fatehpur Sikri and explore the amazing palaces of the renowned 'Pink City'.

Days 15-16 Delhi

The journey continues in Delhi - a metropolis crammed with the magic and mystery of a million stories. Dive into the chaos and perhaps celebrate the adventure with a Kingfisher beer.

Day 17 Bikaner

Located in the Thar desert, Bikaner is known for its camel farm, great food, rustic charm and extraordinary palaces, fort and temples.

Days 18-20 Jaisalmer/Camel Safari

Located within the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer is like an ancient oasis with its heritage architecture, medieval temples and crumbling, yet majestic, fort. Journey into the desert of Jaisalmer on camels, watching the sun set over the dunes and enjoying a campfire evening before sleeping under the stars. Like a city risen from the desert sands, Jaisalmer's sand-coloured buildings, busting bazaars and fascinating living fort all help give the city a wonderful old-world feel.

Days 28-29 Ajanta/Ellora

Thirty spectacular cave monuments, decorated in Buddhist paintings and sculptures and dating from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD, can be found in Ajanta. Between the 5th and 10th century AD, Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples, monasteries and chapels were intricately carved into the hills around Ellora - the result is breathtaking.

    1. With increasing concerns about tourists embarking on tribal safaris, the government of Orissa has imposed strict rules for trips to areas inhabited by tribal groups. As a result, the Orissa part of our itinerary has changed and we will now stay in hotels, lodges, or campgrounds associated with local NGOs rather than bushcamping in villages. We will also travel with a local guide for the duration of the visit to the tribal area and have more meals and activities included. This has all resulted in a significant increase in the kitty for this trip compared to what has previously been advertised.
    2. Please note that this trip requires minimum numbers to depart, and may be cancelled up until 56 days prior to departure.
