A spice-infused tour of India from Kochi to Delhi

This all-encompassing tour of India takes in the highlights of north and south - revealing some of the country's wonderful secrets. Revel in the tropical climate, warm waters and lush green landscapes of the south in places like Kochi, Pondicherry and Madurai. ITINERARY CHANGES FOR 2014:
Due to recent accidents and a failed safety audit of tourist vehicles at Ranthambhore National Park we have removed this destination from our itinerary until further notice. From 1st January 2014 this tour will spend an additional night in Bundi to replace the night at Ranthambhore.

Days 1-2 Kochi

As a centre for the spice trade for centuries, cosmopolitan Kochi has an intriguing mix of cultural influences from both the Indian continent and overseas.

Days 3-4 Ootacamund

One of India's more famous hill stations, Ootacamund has spectacular views, a wonderful food market and a cool 'toy' train into the Nilgiri mountains.

Day 5 Mudumalai National Park

Set against the mist-covered peaks of the enchanting Nilgiri Mountains, Mudumalai National Park is one of the best game sanctuaries in India to observe diverse wildlife in close proximity.

Days 6-7 Mysore

The peaceful city of Mysore has a score of lovely parks, grand buildings, well-regarded yoga centres and an incredible palace, the product of its Wodeyar Dynasty heritage.

Day 8 Mamallapuram

Mamallapuram (also Mahabalipuram) is a town with ancient origins. It has nice beaches, good restaurants and the intricately carved Shore Temple, still standing from the 9th century.

Day 9 Pondicherry

A former French colony, Pondicherry (now Puducherry) has a distinct French feel while retaining its Indian roots, making it one of India's more surprising and delightful cities.

Day 10 Madurai

With incredible temple complexes and a recorded history going back to the 3rd century BC, Madurai has some wonderful buildings and heritage sites to discover.

Days 11-12 Periyar National Park

Periyar is an area of Kerala famed for its spice plantations and wildlife sanctuary, which is home to tigers and elephants, among other creatures, and beautiful scenery.

Day 13 Kerala Backwaters Homestay

Swaying palm trees, lush rice paddies, winding waterways, Ayurvedic massage and welcoming locals all await on this amazing Kerala Backwaters homestay.

Day 14 Kochi

Kochi is a fascinating city made up of a number of islands and peninsulas, and its numerous attractions are best seen by rickshaw or boat.

Days 15-16 Delhi

It's big, it's bold, it's busy - and there is nowhere in the world quite like it. Delhi's sights and sounds are sure to engage and intrigue.

Day 17 Agra

Day 18 Rural Heritage Stay

Bassi is a tiny village in Rajasthan well-known for its wealth of temples, heritage buildings and 16th-century fort.

Days 19-20 Jaipur

Jaipur was designed by royalty and has delighted visitors for centuries with its pink-hued buildings, wonderful bazaars and rainbow of bright colours dancing along hectic streets.

Days 21-22 Bundi

The surrounding hills and blue, crooked streets of Bundi are home to a delightful array of heritage buildings and laidback eateries, temples and shops.

Days 23-24 Rural Heritage Stay

Located deep in rural India, a stay at Castle Bijaipur - a fortified mansion still run by the local landlord - provides an insight into the life and customs of the Rajasthan people.

Days 25-26 Udaipur

With dusty hills in the background and tranquil lakes its centrepiece, Udaipur is a truly beautiful city with fabulous heritage buildings, restaurants and narrow laneways.

Days 27-28 Pushkar

The holy city of Pushkar is a place of beauty with its whitewashed buildings, serene lake, rooftop restaurants and impressive temples.
