Itinerary

With a population of over 18 million people, Mumbai is the beating heart and commercial capital of India. Acclimatise to the speed and sights of this metropolitan melting pot on a guided walking tour. Be sure to stop by the Gateway of India to walk in the steps of royalty and glimpse the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel just opposite the gate.
While in Ahmedabad, visit the Gandhi Ashram, which Mahatma Gandhi himself founded in 1915. Later, admire the view from Bhadra Fort and stare up in awe at the domed roof and beautiful minarets atop the Rani Sipri Mosque. The quirky Utensils Museum is also worth a visit.
On the drive to India’s fifth largest city, stop off at the archaeological site of Lothal, a prominent city from the Bronze Age. Explore the acropolis, baths and citadel before entering the museum, which showcases stunning antiquities.
Journey to Palitana to see the ‘City of Temples’. Explore over 800 marble temples at the most sacred site of the Jain community. Then head to Sasan Gir Wildlife Sanctuary. Home to a concentration of big cats, keep your eyes peeled for roaming lions and leopards, as well as crocodiles, hyenas and jackals.
Explore an ancient fort and Buddhist caves en route to Porbandar, birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi.
Visit Ghandi’s ancestral home and pay tribute to this legend at the nearby Kirti Mandir memorial. Carry on to the spiritual seaside town of Dwarka and discover ancient shrines, lovely temples and quiet beaches.
Famous for its colourful tie-died cloth, bustling bazaars and Jain temples, Jamnargar is also home to the Gujarat Ayurved University – the first university in the world to teach traditional medicine, yoga and naturopathy in accordance with ayurvedic principles.
Bursting with bazaars, Bhuj is definitely the place to pick up some local handicrafts and pretty jewels. After some serious haggling, explore the old walled citadel, Darbargadh and be entranced by the breathtaking Hall of Mirrors at the Aina Mahal. Later, journey out to the Banni grasslands and visit some of the local communities – this is a privilege and a real highlight of the trip.
The stark desert landscape of Little Rann is home to India’s remaining wild donkey population. Get up close and personal with some of these beautiful creatures at the wonderfully-named Wild Ass Sanctuary. Tonight, sleep under the stars in a safari camp just outside the reserve.
On the road back to Ahmedabad, stop off at the Patan stepwells, a local silk centre and the impressive Modhera Sun Temple. Dedicated to the Hindu sun god, this ancient monument gives insight into a variety of auspicious Hindu practices. Pick up some last-minute souvenirs at the local market in Ahmedabad and dip your hand into a final plate of thali before this Gujarat Adventure comes to an end.
