Is tipping customary in Greece?

Tipping is considered optional in Greece, but considering that most waiters and waitresses earn a low wage, rounding up the bill is considered polite. Tipping extra for good service is a personal choice – use discretion.

What is the internet access like in Greece?

Internet access is good in Greece and internet cafes are easily found in most cities and major towns.

Can I use my mobile/cell phone while in Greece?

Mobile phone coverage is generally very good on mainland Greece, but less so on some of Greece’s more remote islands. Ensure global roaming is activated before you arrive.

What are the toilets like in Greece?

Western-style, flushable toilets are the standard in Greece. Expect to pay a small fee when using public toilets in some parts of Greece.

Can I drink the water in Greece?

Drinking water from taps in Greece is considered safe, unless otherwise marked (tap water may not be of drinkable quality on some of Greece’s small and remote islands).

Are credit cards accepted widely in Greece?

Major credit cards are widely accepted by stores in Greece. Smaller cafes and shops may not accept credit cards so ensure you carry enough cash to cover small purchases.

What is ATM access like in Greece?

ATMs are common in Greece, so finding one won't be a problem in most towns and cities.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before travelling in Greece?

Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

Do I need a visa to travel to Greece?

Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveller. The visa requirements for your trip vary depending on where you are from and where you are going. As a general rule most countries expect that you will have at least 6 months' validity on your passport. On arrival visitors may be asked to present return tickets and evidence of means to cover your intended stay.

  • Intrepid requires you to provide a clear scanned copy of the front page of your passport (photo page) for relevant port Authority registration in the Ionian sea region. Intrepid must receive the passport copy at least 30 days prior to travel. Please make sure that this copy is for the passport that you will be travelling on. If you have to renew your passport please bring your old passport with you as well.
