Travel in Gibraltar with Intrepid
Sunshine, apes and tapas; this is Britain but not as you know it. But don’t panic, among the more exotic trappings and Spanish influences, you’ll still find pub grub, pillar boxes and scones. The hero of the state is, of course, the Rock. A cable car trip to the top gives stunning views over to Spain and if you squint out across the water you might just catch a glimpse of Morocco in the distance.

Gibraltar's Top Picks
Barbary apes are the only wild primates in Europe
Top 5 Sights in Gibraltar
- The Rock: The Rock is what it’s all about in Gibraltar. Every which way you turn is another spectacular view of this hulking limestone rock. Take a cable car to the top to really appreciate it and look left and right for views of Spain.
- Morocco: Africa is only 26 km away. On a clear day if you squint and lean your head a little to the side you’ll see Morocco squinting right back at you.
- Barbary Apes: Europe’s only wild apes are equal parts loved and feared. You’ll know why the moment you pick up your camera and see serious a ape face staring straight down the lens at you… right before he pockets the camera and runs away.
- Best of British: If you’re needing a dose of bobbies walking the beat, red pillar boxes and tea rooms but you can’t bear to leave the sunshine, don’t worry, the best of British is on show, alongside the best of Spain and a touch of Morocco.
- St Michael’s Cave: Once your eyes adjust to the soft light, you’ll be blown away by this stunning network of limestone caves. The largest of the caves is dubbed the Cathedral Cave and is regularly used as an auditorium.
