You’ll visit the facade of Qoricancha temple, the local San Pedro market, the main square, past the 12 Angled Stone, Regocijo Square and San Blas Square. Finally you’ll visit the Chocolate museum where there will be an opportunity to sample a hot chocolate made from local cacao beans. This might be a good opportunity to purchase some gifts or souvenirs. There’s a small store where you’ll find various handicrafts and a variety of artisanal chocolate products. In the morning, travel by private car through the Sacred Valley (approx 2 hours total drive), on the outskirts of Cusco. Known as Wilcamayo to the Incas, the lush, fertile valley has long been the main source of food for the high Andes. Maize crops can be seen surrounding the river and covering the terraces carved high into the valley walls.

You will head to a community in the Valley to learn about local lifestyle and activities and if our visit coincides with market day you can spend time browsing the stalls in search of hand-painted beads or warm ponchos and maybe practicing some of the local language, Quechua. Later you will continue the tour visiting the town of Ollantaytambo which has been built over an ancient Inca town. This is a magnificent example of Inca urban planning and one of the few places where the Incas defeated the Spanish.

Ollantaytambo's archaeological site is located to the east of the Plaza de Armas. The upper terraces of this site offer great photo opportunities of the squared grid town below.

by the afternoon,  transfer to your hotel.

  • Sacred Valley - Local community visit and lunch ( With English speaking tour leader )

This morning you'll wake up quite early in preparing to take an early train (depending on availability the train may depart between 6 and 8am). You will take the train from Ollantaytambo to KM104 which is the beginning of the trek. Begin the trek by crossing the Vilcanota/Urubamba River, and we'll enter the Inca Trail at approximately 9 am. Shortly after, it's on to the Inca ruins of Chachabamba. While this is one of the easiest treks around the Cuzco region, you still need to have a reasonable level of fitness to complete it. After an upwards climb, we arrive at Wiñay Wayna ('Forever Young') (2,680 m). Many visitors consider this impressive complex to be the best sight on the whole trail. Continue for about an hour further to Inti Punku (The Sun Gate) (2,730 m) from where you will have your views of Machu Picchu (2,400 m). Arriving late in the day, you may be lucky enough to enjoy the view by yourself. Depending on what time you arrive to Machu Picchu, you'll have some time to take a few pictures and look around; however, your guided tour will be tomorrow morning when you return to Machu Picchu. Afterwards, take a bus down to your hotel in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town).

  • Day Trek to Machu Picchu ( With English speaking tour guide / leader  )

Early in the morning, take the bus back up the winding road to Machu Picchu. Upon your arrival, you will get into the archaeological zone of Machu Picchu and the tour guide will show you the most important sectors of this great Inca City, such as the great Intiwatana (solar clock), the Sun Temple, the urban sector, the agricultural sector among others. Machu Picchu was long thought to be legendary. Then in 1911, the explorer Hiram Bingham stumbled upon it remains. Machu Picchu stands 2,430 m above sea-level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. It was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height; its giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments.

After the tour, you will return to the town by bus to take the train back to the city of Cusco.

Upon arrival, you will be picked up from the train station in Ollantaytambo and transferred to your hotel in Cusco.

Take a tour of the lake by slow motor boat, stopping off to visit the Uros floating islands. Using the versatile totora reeds found in the shallows of the lake, the Uros originally built their islands to isolate themselves from rival tribes. To get a closer look at daily life in the Lake Titicaca region, you'll be welcomed into the home of a local community and stay the night. Make the most of your visit by helping your host family with their daily activities, communicating to them in Quechua or perhaps trying your luck with them at soccer.

Puno is the hometown of Kusimayo, a terrific local organisation that works towards improving the living condition of children and adults affected by poverty and malnutrition in this part of the world you have now come to know so well.
